GIBSON CITY – Thomas E. Rhodes, 77, of Gibson City died at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 31, 2012) at Gibson Area Hospital - Annex in Gibson City.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at American Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gibson City with Pastor Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 2) at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City and from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church.
Tom was born June 15, 1934, in Paxton, a son of Harold W. and Florence M. (McClure) Rhodes. He married Lois M. Christensen on June 21, 1953, in Anchor. She survives in Gibson City.
Also surviving are his children, a son, Steven W. (Vicki) Rhodes of Foosland and their children, Lyndi (Tim) Barnes and their children, Allyson, Sydnee and Kadyn of Foosland, and Casey Rapson and her children, Reese, Nicholas and Miley of Gibson City; a daughter, Connie M. Davis of Peoria and her children, Christina (Tony) Wood and their sons, Aiden and Jacob, Priscilla Wallis and her daughter, Autumn, and John E. Davis and Brianna Baker; and a son, Thomas M. Rhodes of Urbana. One sister, Joyce (Dick) Nally of Gibson City, also survives.
He was a member of Gibson City Masonic Lodge AF & AM #733; a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. In 2010 he was inducted into the Gibson City Hall of Fame. He broke many track records. He was a member of the state basketball team and the class of 1951 football champions.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting and served on the church council and the Gibson City Council for many years. He was a salesman for Tempco products for many years.
