Joe Harbison

LeROY – Joe E. Harbison, 74, made his last voyage at 1:37 a.m. Monday (Jan. 30, 2012) from his home in LeRoy.
He was born on Oct. 29, 1937, in Chandlerville, to Edward and Roberta Garner Harbison. He married Vicky J. Crabtree on Aug. 17, 1958, and they enjoyed 53 years together.
To this union were born three children, Jeffrey E. Harbison, Mark F. Harbison (Carol) and Christine D. Anderson (Roger), all surviving. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gene, and his parents.
There are seven grandchildren, Sarah E. Harbison, Jessica M. Harbison, Tayrn J. Harbison, Kayla D. Harbison, Matthew M. Harbison, Kaci A. Harbison and Dylan E. Nelson.
Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Ara Ann M. Harbison; and four nieces and nephews, Ara Marie (Steve) Peterson, Sean (Dawn) Harbison, Shane (Nikki) Harbison, and Janeine Williams.
He attended Western Illinois University, St. Francis Medical Technology, Bradley University and University of Illinois Pharmacy School.
In 1971, he opened and operated Harbison Pharmacy in LeRoy until the closing of the store and in 1989 was employed at the UI McKinley Health Center until retiring in 1999.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 221 in LeRoy. In his retirement he enjoyed woodcarving, and learned to fly radio-controlled airplanes and built and sailed radio-controlled sailboats, and he also loved traveling. He was a wonderful husband and father, a man of many interests and questions and wore many hats.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. Pastor Mary Louise Haxton will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the LeRoy Ambulance Service or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Hurley Funeral Home in Havana is in charge of arrangements.
