INDIANAPOLIS – Robert Lee Karr, 83, current resident of Indianapolis and longtime resident of Rantoul, passed away peacefully on Jan. 11, 2012, at IU West Hospital surrounded by family.
Robert "Bob" was born on Jan. 22, 1928, in Rantoul. He was one of six children born to Fred and Martha Belle Hadley Karr. He graduated from Rantoul Township High School. Bob was retired after a long career at the Illinois Central Railroad. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and received an honorable discharge. He also was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge, spanning more than 50 years of his life.
On Dec. 12, 1953, he married Mary Louise Reichert and they just celebrated 58 years of marriage on Dec. 12, 2011. Bob will forever be remembered and always treasured by his loving wife, Mary Karr; beloved children, Bob Karr, Glenda Karr, Steven Karr and Lisa (Karr) Ordaz; his daughters-in-law, Pam Karr and Thuy Karr; and his son-in-law, Tony Ordaz; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Amber and Amanda Ordaz, Kamie (Karr) Owens, husband Steve, Charlie Karr, wife Angie, April Karr, Corey and Alex Karr, and Madisyn Owens; his devoted brother, Edward Karr; and his loving sister, Virginia Smith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Karr; mother and stepfather, Martha and Ed Kuyrkendall; two brothers; and a sister, Joe and Bill Karr and Sylvia Lenhart.
Bob loved listening to the radio, watching sports, taking walks, and above all else, spending time with his family. Bob touched so many lives with his kind heart and amazing smile. We will miss him every day and love him always.
Bob's graveside service and celebration of life memorial service will be set for a later date in Rantoul. Donations may be made to the Rantoul Masonic Lodge, 101 1/2 E. Sangamon Ave., Rantoul, IL 61866 or the American Cancer Society.
