Merl "Stick" Matteson - Villa Grove-Camargo

VILLA GROVE – Merl Leon "Stick" Matteson, 95, of Villa Grove died at 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday (Dec. 6, 2011) at the Newman Rehab and Health Care Center, Newman.
Masonic Rites with funeral services to follow will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Villa Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Nick Showalter officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the Greenup Cemetery, Greenup. Joines Funeral Home, Villa Grove, is handling arrangements.
Mr. Matteson was born Oct. 19, 1916, in Greenup, a son of Elmer and Rosa (Simerl) Matteson. He married Martha Rogene Ozier on March 11, 1939, in Greenup. She died on Nov. 24, 1996.
Surviving are one son, Robert Matteson of Villa Grove; one daughter, Sandra (Larry) Heneghan of Alvarado, Texas; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Norma (Dan) Tharp of Mahomet.
Mr. Matteson was preceded in death by his wife, son Ronald, six brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Matteson graduated form Greenup High School. He was a member of the Villa Grove United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Villa Grove Lions Club and the Villa Grove-Camargo Masonic Lodge 885. He worked for the Clifford-Jacobs Forging Co., in Champaign. He owned and operated the Matteson Brothers Grocery Store in Villa Grove and he retired from the University of Illinois Maintenance Department. Memorials can be made to the Villa Grove United Methodist Church or to Villa Grove-Camargo Masonic Lodge 885.
