MONTICELLO – Dean F. Winder, 83, died at 5 a.m. Saturday (Oct 15, 2011) at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home and funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the funeral home.
Dean was born August 29, 1928, in Lodge, the son of Phillip and Gladys (Foster) Winder. He married Alice Louise Grabb on Oct. 15, 1949, in Piggott, Ark. She preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 1995.
Survivors include daughters Alicia of Monticello and Alexia Gossett of Champaign; sons Alan of Monticello and Robert of Aurora; nine grandchildren, Allison (Zack) Chapin of Noblesville, Ind., Ashley Gossett of Carmel, Ind., Timothy (Emily) of Champaign, Alexandra Gossett of Champaign, Amanda Gossett of Carmel, Ind., Taylor Gossett of Champaign, Jarrod Winder of Belleville, Abbey Winder of Bloomington and Autumn Winder of Monticello; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson Chapin of Noblesville, Ind., and Tinley Franklin of Champaign, IL.
He is also survived by two sisters, Phyllis Colvin of Lexington, Ky., and Josie Faught of Tucson, Ariz.; and two brothers, Lester Winder of Monticello and Warren (Jeannette) Winder of Buckley. Dean also leaves behind longtime companion Sally Moore of Monticello.
Dean retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Monticello, after 24 years. He was a member of the Monticello Junior Chamber Commerce, serving as state president in 1964; thirty-second degree Loyal Order of Mason, Monticello Lions Club, serving as district 1-L governor, Piatt County Sportmen's Club.
Dean enjoyed collecting antiques, fishing, traveling, playing poker and collecting coins. He enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Cubs and Atlanta Braves.
