Don Wade - Urbana Lodge

CHAMPAIGN – Don Wade, 81, of Champaign passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Sunday (June 5, 2011) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at First United Methodist Church of Urbana, 304 S. Race St., with the Rev. Dr. John Sims officiating.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Visitation will be from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Masonic Rites will be held at 6:45 p.m. at the church. Freese Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
Don began his life on July 18, 1929, the son of Vernon and Carrie Shelton Wade, who lived near Fairfield, Ill. Preceding him in death was his brother, James Wade, and his son, Bob Wade.
Don married Edith Summers on Feb. 18, 1950, in Urbana. They are the parents of Bill Wade (Sue), Janet Fredrick and Joann Wade. They are the grandparents of Ryan Wade, Kim VanEngelenburg (Andy), Brian Fredrick, Troy Blacker and Michael Reynolds. Andrea Boley and Allison Wade are their great-grandchildren. He is terribly missed by his kitty, Sly.
Don served in the Air Force and then transferred to the Illinois National Guard of Urbana, subsequently retiring from there.
For two years he worked for the Illinois Central Railroad as a brakeman. He then began working at the University of Illinois farms, later moving to the position of UI Veterinary Medicine animal caretaker. He retired from the UI after 35 years.
He was a member of the Urbana Masonic Lodge 157 and achieved the ranking of 32nd Degree, as well as a life member and Honor Guard of VFW Post 5520. He served as a committee member of Boy Scout Troop 127.
Memorials or contributions in his honor can be made to the VFW or the Urbana First United Methodist Church.
