HOOPESTON – James William F. "Jim" Crouch, 75, of Hoopeston passed away on Tuesday (April 19, 2011) at Heartland Healthcare, Paxton.
Jim was born on April 14, 1936, in Hoopeston, the son of E. Harold and Marguerite (Snively) Crouch. He attended John Greer High School, Danville Junior College, and earned a B.A. from Illinois State University.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and the U.S. Army, which included tours in Berlin, Germany (287th MP Co.) and Orleans, France (544 MP Platoon).
After leaving military service, Jim was self-employed as a store owner, farmer and private detective. Prior to retirement, he was highway commissioner for Grant Township.
Jim was a member of Rotary International (Paul Harris Fellow), American Legion, Berlin Military Veterans Association, Valley of Danville Scottish Rite, and was a life member of Star Lodge No. 709, Veterans of Foreign Wars and National Rifle Association. He was also a member of Cheneyville Church of Christ.
On June 25, 1966, Jim married Janet (Brougher) Crouch at the Antioch Church of Christ in Rossville.
Surviving are four children, Bill Crouch of Milford, Becky Jones of Veedersburg, Ind., James Crouch and Katherine (Will) Clayton, both of Hoopeston; seven grandchildren; one sister, Carol (George) Curtiss of Urbana; and one brother, Kenneth (Janet) Crouch of Punta Gorda, Fla. Jim is also survived by five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral for James will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at Anderson Funeral Home, Hoopeston, with Rev. Janet Eggleston officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 22, at the funeral home, with Masonic rites being held at 7:45 p.m. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery, Hoopeston, with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post 384.
Memorials may be sent to American Legion Post 384, 502 E. Penn St., Hoopeston, or the Hoopeston Star Lodge No. 709, 208 W. Orange St., Hoopeston.
