LODA – Howard R. Symmonds, 87, of Loda passed away at 12:30 p.m. Thursday (April 14, 2011) in Urbana.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Grace Lutheran Church, Rankin. The Rev. Jennifer Brown will officiate. Burial will be at Rankin Union Cemetery, Rankin.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday (today) at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells St., Paxton, with masonic services at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the church on Sunday one hour before the service.
Howard was born Jan. 30, 1924, at Rankin, the son of Earl R. and Anna Ethel Dahl Symmonds. He graduated from Rankin High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He retired as vice president of sales with the Anchor Brush Company in Montgomery, having been employed with the company for over 40 years.
He was a resident of Oswego for 30 years, moving to Loda in 1980. He married Lonette J. Griffin on Sept. 4, 1949, in Hoopeston. She preceded him in death on August 30, 2002.
He is survived by a daughter, JoLynn Symmonds of Darlington, S.C.; a son, Steven (Laura) Symmonds of Westbrook, Maine; four grandchildren, Sara Garrity, Jacob Symmonds, Katie Phillips and Micah Symmonds; two brothers, Melvin Symmonds of Hoopeston and Gerald Symmonds of Boulder City, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.
Howard attended Grace Lutheran Church, Rankin. He was a member of Aurora Lodge 254 and Shriner of the Medinah Oasis, a member of the Optimist Club, Oswego American Legion and the Lakeview Country Club, Loda.
He enjoyed golfing and was an avid Cubs and Bears fan.
