GIBSON CITY – Richard L. Jensen, 88, of Gibson City died at 4 a.m. Monday (March 14, 2011) at the Champaign-Urbana Regional Rehabilitation Center in Savoy.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at Lamb Funeral Home, 303 N. Church St., Gibson City. The Rev. Kevin Boesen will officiate. Burial will be in Drummer Township Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Lee Lowery American Legion Post 568.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 8 p.m.
Mr. Jensen was born on Dec. 30, 1922, in Gibson City, a son of Arthur and Emma (Johnson) Jensen. He married Jean Carroll on Aug. 8, 1948. She died Aug. 8, 1995.
Surviving are four daughters, Linda (Damian) Donberger of Tolono, Jill Jensen of Fisher, Diana (Arnold) Luna of Fisher and Joi (Jeff) McGuire of Gibson City. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Don Jensen of Gibson City.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill.
Mr. Jensen was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines, New Guinea and Luzon. Upon his return he had a milk route for Kentland Dairy. He then was a steam fitter at Chanute Air Force Base for 38 years.
He was a member of Lowery American Legion Post 568, the VFW, AMVETS, the Foosland Sportsmen's Club, the Gibson City Moose Lodge, the Gibson City Masonic Lodge 733 AF&AM, and was a Shriner. He was also a school bus driver for several years.
