WESTVILLE – Russell "Russ" Lynch, 78, of Westville, formerly of Homer, passed away at 2:25 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at Freese Funeral Home, 202 W. Main, Sidney, with Pastor Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will be in GAR Cemetery, Homer, with military rites being according. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Russ was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Homer, a son of Raymond Russell and Mary Manning Lynch Sr. He married Marilyn White on July 12, 1953. She survives in Fairmount.
Also surviving are five children, Julie (Steve) Price of Hays, Kan., Joni (Bill) Markel of Sidell, Jayne Lynch of Savoy, Kenny (Jennifer) Lynch of Fairmount and Kerry Lynch of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, Angie Luhrsen, Joshua Price, Uriah Price, Lindsey Markel, Jessi Gawthorp, Branden Markel, Kaleb Shields, Keith Shields, Abigail Lynch, and Anna Lynch; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Angie McKenzie of Sidney; and a brother, Jim Lynch of Newman.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Deanna Lynch; a son, Keith Lynch; and a great-granddaughter, Macey Duewer.
Russ served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1954. He farmed in the Homer area and retired from University of Illinois 1992 from the Steam Distribution Plant. He was a lifetime member of Homer American Legion and was a 32nd degree Mason in the Homer Masonic Lodge. He also possessed a pilot's license.
