WEST POINT, Miss. – Franz Frederick "Fred" Coon, 71, passed away Thursday (Jan. 20, 2011) at the MS State Veterans Home-Oxford.
He was born June 13, 1939, in Edgar County to the late Myrle Young and Howard Hugh Coon.
Mr. Coon was a maintenance worker for the Illinois Department of Transportation Mattoon-Storage for 32 years. He moved to West Point in 2006 from Charleston.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1959 to 1961.
Franz Frederick Coon married Marilyn Childress Coon on Jan. 17, 1962, in Paris in Edgar County.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m.Tuesday, Jan. 25, with the Rev. Jesse Adams officiating, at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday with Masonic rites concluding the visitation at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Childress Coon of West Point, Miss.; one daughter, Lynn Ann Fisher (David) of Aberdeen, Miss.; one grandson, Daniel Fisher; three sisters, Florence Marland of Richmond, Va., Virginia Greger (Don) of Champaign and Barbara Clark (Stu) of Champaign; and three brothers, Harold Coon (Dolores) of Columbus, Ohio, Paul Coon (Lois) of Oakland and Robert Coon (Joyce) of Humboldt. Daughter Amelia Arlene "Amy" Coon; sister Martha Tokarchick; and brother Charles Robert Coon all preceded him in death.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees of District 5 at Mattoon Storage.
